While at Stony Brook he worked in the lab of Eden Figueroa on vapor cell based quantum memories. His work included building and testing a Gradient Echo Memory (GEM) to be investigated as a potential technology for storing photonic qubits for future use in quantum repeaters and quantum networks. And building a free space link capable of sending single photon polarization qubits to test Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) protocols in conjunction with the quantum memories.
